QUEENS CIVIC CONGRESS CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE HALT, INVESTIGATION INTO CITY OF YES
NEWS RELEASE
**For Immediate Release**
September 30, 2024,   QUEENS CIVIC CONGRESS CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE HALT, INVESTIGATION INTO CITY OF YES
In view of the federal indictment of NYC Mayor Eric Adams by the US Southern District of New York, on Thursday, September 26th, 2024, the Queens Civic Congress (QCC) demands an immediate halt to the legislative process and a thorough investigation into the “City of Yes for Housing Opportunity.”
Mayor Adams and the NYC Planning Commission are proceeding in an expedited way in order to allow massive increases in development and density as-of-right. Queens Civic Congress (QCC) has adamantly opposed the City of Yes due to the dramatic and unwelcome changes in the character of our neighborhoods, in particular bypassing zoning regulations and community board procedures. QCC’s position is supported by an overwhelming majority of community boards and state/city elected officials.
Having conducted a thorough examination of this huge package of zoning changes as well as the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), it is our belief that this process has been unduly rushed without adequate community input and deliberation. Hence, QCC’s demand for a halt to “City of Yes” and an investigation.   ###
Sincerely,
Warren Schreiber President Queens Civic Congress

QCC Opposes Gov. Hochul's zoning takeover proposal

At a zoom conference by Congressman Tom Suozzi on January 27, 2022, QCC President Kevin Forrestal read the following statement in opposition to the governor's State of The State proposal to eliminate single family zoning state-wide:

"My name is Kevin Forrestal and I am the President of the Queens Civic Congress, representing 80 + civic associations across Queens County. Last week, our organization took a vote - which was unanimous - to oppose this horrific proposed legislation. Not only will it destroy the way of life for millions of law-abiding citizens across NY State, but the legislation rewards speculators, developers and longstanding illegal  behavior that has put people's lives at risk. Governor Hochul must withdraw this proposal immediately and remove it from the state budget process. "
